Description

Scary hiking stories and backcountry horror. Three hikers in three states had messages sent from their own satellite messengers — messages they did not write, describing places they were not standing and things they were doing at that moment. True scary stories and creepy stories submitted to Obscure Nights. Missing 411. Wilderness horror. Unexplained. Account 1 — A solo hiker in Idaho got a message from his wife asking why he was at a meadow. His device had sent a message twelve minutes earlier describing a place four miles from where he was standing. Over the next two hours it sent six more, and each one put the sender closer to him. The last one before it took him said: standing behind him. It drove him off a cut bank and held his face in eight inches of creek water. Account 2 — A woman in Montana got messages written in her own phrasing, in her own lower case, using the shorthand only her sister knows. Every single one was good advice. Over thirty-six hours eleven of them moved her further and further off her planned route, and the last one told her to get off the ridge and into the drainage below her. Something was already down there, waiting where she'd been told to go. Account 3 — Four days after her brother went missing in Colorado, his satellite messenger started sending again. When she went in to look for him herself, it began describing what she was doing while she was doing it — where she'd stopped, how fast she was moving on the scree, that her pack was open. Then it sent a coordinate and asked her to come. She found his pack. The device in it was switched off.
