Hunting horror stories from three deer hunters who ran cameras on their own tree stands. Unexplained. Account 1 — A bowhunter in Illinois got a photo notification at 3:47 in the morning showing a figure sitting in his stand, facing out at the field the way he faces. Four more came in over six minutes, and in the last one it was looking straight at the camera. When he got there before dawn, his climbing sticks had been taken off the tree and laid in a row on the ground, with fresh bark flecks lying on top of them. The bare trunk had four parallel marks running up it. And the mesh under his platform had mud pressed up into it from below, in four places, in a line. Account 2 — A man sat in his truck a mile from his brother's stand watching a cellular camera push photos to his phone. At 5:40 there was something pale at the base of the tree. At 5:52 it was halfway up the trunk, below his brother's boots. At 6:04 it was pressed flat under the platform while his brother glassed the field. He could not phone him, and shouting would only have brought his brother down the tree past it. Account 3 — A hunter went missing in Missouri and has never been found. His harness was hanging buckled with nobody in it, the tether still clipped, his bow on its hook, and his boots laced on the platform. The camera's uploads stopped at 4:12 AM, but the physical card held nine more frames the cell signal never sent, showing something coming down the trunk headfirst. Dogs tracked him in from the trailhead to the base of that tree and stopped. No line out, in any direction, run four times.
