Description
The crystalline pop gloss of Little Lies was engineered almost entirely by Lindsey Buckingham, who spent over twelve months in his Los Angeles studio layering Fairlight CMI samples and tape manipulations for the Tango in the Night sessions. Just weeks before the promotional tour was scheduled to launch in August 1987, a tense band meeting at Christine McVie's home escalated into a violent physical altercation between Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. Buckingham quit on the spot, refusing to spend another year on the road supporting an album he had exhausted himself producing. Fleetwood Mac hired two touring musicians to recreate Buckingham's parts on stage, delivering his pristine sonic architecture to sold-out arenas while the man responsible sat at home.
Source: Recounted in Mick Fleetwood's memoir Play On, Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks interviews with Rolling Stone and Mojo, and production credits for Tango in the Night.
