Description

Written by CeeLo Green alongside rap legend Anthony Ray (Sir Mix-a-Lot), Don't Cha was first recorded and released in 2004 by Outkast backing vocalist Tori Alamaze. When the independent single achieved only modest chart placements, publisher rights were circulated across major labels. Pop socialite Paris Hilton was offered the track for her debut self-titled album but turned it down, while British girl group Sugababes likewise declined the cut. Interscope Records chief Jimmy Iovine moved swiftly to purchase the master rights, pairing the hook with The Pussycat Dolls and a guest verse from Busta Rhymes. The song topped charts in sixteen countries, transforming an overlooked demo into one of the defining pop hits of the decade. Source: CeeLo Green confirmed the pitching history to MTV News; Paris Hilton acknowledged passing on the song in a 2006 radio interview with KIIS-FM.
