Description

The record jump at Rally Finland is about 187 feet, at 106 miles an hour. In the air, the wheels and the body share a fixed amount of spin. Speed the wheels up, and the body turns the other way. Stop them, and their spin passes into the body. Satellites turn with spinning wheels the same way. The gas can only rev the engine to its limit, so it tilts the car less than the brake. Even the brake tilts the nose only about ten degrees in a jump like this. So drivers also set the car up before the crest, braking with the left foot. Turning the steering wheel in the air does almost nothing, because the tires have nothing to push on. This 3D animation shows illustrated jumps and crashes, partly in slow motion. It draws the tilt bigger than it is. The car, the crew and the stage are generic designs. #Shorts #Rally #Physics
