Description
Why are so many women over 60 and 70 turning to GLP-1 medications like Zepbound for weight loss? At 72, I'm on my own Zepbound weight-loss journey, and I've been thinking a lot about why GLP-1s are resonating with so many older women right now.
For many of us, weight loss after 60 or 70 isn't about trying to look 30 again. It's about our health, strength, mobility, independence, and being able to enjoy the years we still have ahead of us.
In this video, I'm talking honestly about GLP-1 weight loss after 60, my experience with Zepbound at 72, food noise, decades of struggling with weight, protecting our strength and muscle as we age, and why I believe so many women are approaching weight loss differently later in life.
After spending decades raising families, building careers, caring for the people we love, and for some of us, becoming caregivers later in life, maybe we're finally realizing something:
It's our time, too.
One of the biggest surprises of my Zepbound journey hasn't just been the weight loss. It's been the quieting of the food noise and realizing how different it feels to make food choices without that constant conversation going on in my head.
But at our age, I don't believe this journey should simply be about eating less or seeing a smaller number on the scale. I want to protect my strength, pay attention to protein, fiber and hydration, keep moving my body, and give myself the best opportunity I can to remain healthy and independent.
I'm not a doctor, and I'm not here to tell anyone whether a GLP-1 medication is right for them. These medications have risks and benefits, and that's a conversation to have with your doctor. I'm simply a 72-year-old woman living this journey and sharing what I'm learning along the way.
