🔗 Save $6,000 A Year with My Complete Amish Home-Saving Method I teach: https://eliasyoder.com Let me show you today what may be the king of all the one-dish comfort suppers, a proper old-fashioned chicken pot pie, tender chicken and vegetables in a rich, creamy, savory gravy, all baked under a golden, flaky, buttery crust, so that you break through that crisp crust into the hot creamy filling beneath. It is a whole meal in one dish, the meat and the vegetables and the gravy and the bread all together, hearty and warming and utterly satisfying, the kind of supper that wraps a body in comfort on a cold night. And it is a wonderful use for leftover chicken, and I am going to show you how to make it right, from a real from-scratch gravy, not a can of soup. Now, a quick honest word, among my own Pennsylvania Dutch people, chicken pot pie means a noodle stew, no crust. But today I am showing you the classic American crust-topped pie. And it is not my chicken and dumplings, a brothy stew, but a thick creamy filling under a pastry crust. INGREDIENTS (one 9-inch pie) For the crust: 1 to 2 flaky pie crusts (see my pie crust recipe) For the filling: 3 to 4 cups cooked chicken, chopped (leftover roast is perfect) 4 tablespoons butter 1 onion, 2 carrots, 2 celery stalks, chopped 1/3 cup flour 2 cups chicken broth (homemade is best) 1/2 cup cream or milk 1 cup peas Salt, pepper, thyme Here is what you will learn: ✔ The Pennsylvania Dutch pot pie vs. the crust-topped pie (honest clarification) ✔ How this differs from chicken and dumplings ✔ Why leftover chicken is perfect (a great thrift) ✔ How to make the gravy from scratch, NOT a can of soup ✔ Why a real gravy is far finer than canned soup ✔ How to use just a top crust (or a bottom too) ✔ How to bake it golden and bubbling ✔ The old waste-nothing way: one chicken, three ways ✔ Why it freezes well and makes a fine gift for someone in need ✔ How to fix a runny filling, soggy crust, or bland pie You do not need the freez
