New 2027 Suzuki e-Sky - Best Japanese Tiny Electric Kei Car

Suzuki has announced the launch of its first light passenger electric vehicle, the new e SKY, in Japan on November 16. The new electric kei car will be priced from 2.12 million yen, with Suzuki targeting monthly sales of around 1,000 units. Developed under the concept of “Easy to Switch,” the Suzuki e SKY is designed to make the transition from a conventional gasoline-powered car to an electric vehicle as simple as possible. It combines the familiar practicality of a light passenger vehicle with the quiet operation, smooth acceleration and easy drivability associated with EVs. The e SKY measures 3,395 mm in length, 1,475 mm in width and 1,625 mm in height, with a 2,460 mm wheelbase. Its boxy exterior design is focused on maximising interior space while maintaining a compact footprint suitable for urban driving. At the front, the e SKY features square LED headlights with distinctive segmented C-shaped LED daytime running lights. The concept's full-width LED light bar has been replaced by black textured trim incorporating a camera module. The side profile remains clean and functional, with black A- and B-pillars, front-fender-mounted turn indicators and slightly flared wheel arches. At the rear, a roof spoiler incorporates the tail lights, while the e SKY badge is positioned on the tailgate and the Suzuki emblem sits prominently in the centre. Inside, the e SKY adopts a simple and practical cabin layout. The steering wheel features integrated controls, while the flat, table-like dashboard provides additional space for storing small items. Fabric seats and a blind-spot mirror on the left side further emphasise its practicality. The automatic transmission selector is positioned close to the steering wheel, freeing up additional space around the centre console. Equipment includes a 10.1-inch central touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, keyless entry and start, and Vehicle-to-Load functionality, allowing the vehicle's battery to supply electricity to external devices. Power comes from a compact, oil-cooled e-axle that integrates the motor, inverter and gears. It produces a maximum output of 64 PS and 133 Nm of torque. The motor is paired with a thin, flat 26 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. The e SKY uses Suzuki's EV-specific HEARTECT-e platform, which helps deliver a lightweight and rigid body structure. Depending on the grade, the vehicle weight between 1,010 kg and 1,030 kg.
