Then he walked up to a bench where he'd privately decided to mount a twelfth camera — a decision he'd told nobody — and something was already standing there. The camera was still in his pack. Account 2 — A wilderness ranger in the Arkansas bottomlands photographed a figure standing motionless in the reeds for six hours. In the four frames where it turns toward the lens, she was recording voice notes a hundred yards away. The next night it was at her tent door in her own jacket, with the tear in the left cuff visible, and then sitting on her cot while she slept four feet from it. Two days later, after she'd gone home, dispatch got an answer on her call sign in a voice that sounded like her. Account 3 — A trail ranger in Colorado set two cellular cameras on opposite sides of a saddle, both aimed at a closed tent pad. Both triggered at 1:17 in the morning. One showed the pad empty and the other showed a tall shape standing on it. He woke forty yards downslope in a tent that was still pitched and zipped from the inside, with no drag marks anywhere. Three days later, in daylight, both cameras fired again while he stood there with a colleague.
