3 Appalachian Campers Found Footprints Around Their Cars — None Were Theirs

Scary camping stories and camping horror. Three solo car-campers on three dispersed sites — no host, no reservation, no cell service — woke up to a complete set of bare footprints circling their vehicles. None of them made those prints. True scary stories and creepy camping encounters submitted to Obscure Nights. Solo camping horror. Unexplained. Account 1 — A man on BLM ground in Utah found one unbroken ring of bare prints in the alkali dust, eighteen inches out from his tyres. He talked himself into staying a second night to prove it was nothing. At two in the morning something tried all four door handles in order, then got hold of the car and rocked it on its suspension. He drove out with his headlights off because he didn't want to see what was in front of him. Account 2 — A woman on a forest road above Winthrop found two complete loops in the snow — bare feet, in November, at four thousand feet. The second night she got out with a phone light and followed them, because she wanted it to be a person. When the sound moved from ahead of her to behind her, it was between her and the car. She came back over the bonnet of her own vehicle with her forearm open to the bone, and then it got on the roof for forty minutes. Account 3 — A man in Michigan had a dashcam running in parking mode. The footage shows clean ground, and then a footprint where there wasn't one a second before. Nothing walks into frame. They appear one at a time, ninety seconds apart, each closer than the last, until the final one stops beside the driver's door with the toes pointed in. Then the file ends, and seventy-five minutes are missing.
