3 Park Rangers Saw Something They Couldn’t Explain. It Followed Them Out of the Woods.

Fire lookout horror and night shift horror. Three people working alone at night in remote country met something that should not have been able to reach them. True scary stories and creepy stories submitted to Obscure Nights. Something that climbs a live alarm line, keeps pace with a moving truck for nine miles, and wears the face of a man asleep two feet away. Wilderness horror. Unexplained. Account 1 — A fire lookout with fourteen seasons on the job, alone sixty feet up a tower in Idaho. The perimeter alarm fired at 1:04 AM and he swept the base with a good light and saw nothing. Then the steel staircase started ringing. It walked all four sides of the catwalk, pressed the front of itself flat against the glass, and cracked the pane. He went down the outside bracing of the tower and fell the last twenty feet. Account 2 — Two men on a night grading crew in Arkansas, forty miles of gravel and nothing else. Something walked the shoulder alongside their truck for nine miles, and only one of them could see it. When he got out to clear the blade, something closed on his arm and pulled him off the gravel. Then his partner's voice called his name from the trees — while his partner sat eighteen inches away with his mouth shut. Account 3 — Three backpackers shared a Vermont shelter with a friendly stranger. At three in the morning one of them woke to that stranger's face at the window, two feet away, in the rain — and then turned his head and saw the same man asleep beside him. It came to the doorway and put an arm through the gap. In the morning there were no tracks in the mud.
