Australia 1973 Cold Case Solved - Arrest Shocks Community

On a Friday evening in October 1973, a 17-year-old girl finished her shift at a supermarket in Albury and stood on a busy lit street waiting for a lift home. A witness saw her leaning in at a car window at 7:15, talking to someone she appeared to know. Her watch stopped at 7:26. Her body was found two days later in a lagoon six kilometres away. Eleven minutes is how long it took to get her somewhere nobody would hear her. Three separate prosecutions across three decades charged four different men and every single case collapsed before a jury. The man a coroner finally named on the balance of probabilities made an anonymous phone call to a police station in another state in 1989 and spent the next 30 years giving the same false alibi. He died in 2019 before anyone could hold him to account.
