Description

On the evening of June 17th, 1976, a 44-year-old man was stabbed 35 times in his own kitchen in Summer Hill, Sydney, and lay on the floor for five days before anyone found him. Above his body, in his own blood, was a palm print pressed flat against the wall. Detectives printed 200 people and ran the mark through every database available. Nothing. Four years later, the man who left it was arrested in a nearby suburb for smashing a jukebox, fingerprinted, and filed. Both halves of the answer sat in the same police system for the next 43 years. It took a Commission of Inquiry into LGBTIQ hate crimes to finally ask for the print to be examined one more time. The man it belonged to had been dead in Turkey for 24 years by the time his name came back.
