Description
I already uploaded this song to my main channel a few months ago. But I really wanted to add some visuals to it. “Sen’yū” is one of my absolute favorite GUNKA songs because it’s so endlessly profound and, unlike most songs, shows a different side.
I hope you like this style.

*English*
Here, hundreds of miles from our homeland,
Far away in the distant land of Manchuria,
Bathed in the glow of the crimson sunset,
My comrade lies beneath a stone in the field.
How sad to think that only yesterday,
He charged ahead at the very front,
And struck the enemy down with full force.
Does this brave soul now slumber here?
Ah, in the midst of the raging battle,
This comrade who stood right by my side
Suddenly collapsed with a heavy thud,
And I rushed over without a thought.
Though military discipline is strict,
How could I just leave him and go?
I lifted him up, urging him to hold on,
And dressed his wound amid the flying bullets.
Just then a fierce charge swept forward,
And my comrade barely raised his face.
It is for our homeland, do not worry,
Do not fall behind, he said with tears in his eyes.
Though my heart longed to stay beside him,
This body of mine could not be left behind.
Then I will go, I said, and we parted,
But would that be the final farewell?
When the battle was over and darkness fell,
I came back searching with a desperate heart.
Please, please still be alive,
Please still be able to speak, I prayed.
But his soul, cold and empty, had gone home,
And left behind, in his pocket,
Only a watch, still ticking steadily.
That it still moved was heartbreak enough.
Thinking back to last year when we set sail,
When our homeland slowly vanished from sight,
We clasped each other's hands in the Genkai Sea
And spoke our names for the very first time.
From that day on, even a single cigarette
We shared between the two of us,
We showed each other every letter that arrived
And told our stories to each other, again and again.
Arms around each other's shoulders, it became our saying,
Our lives are already forfeit anyway,
If I die, I ask you to see to my remains.
So the two of us swore to each other.
Yet against all expectation, I alone
Have somehow, miraculously, survived,
And here in Manchuria beneath the crimson sunset,
To think that I would dig my comrade's grave.
Tonight the moon shines clear without a cloud,
With a deeply stirred heart I take up my brush,
And write every detail of my comrade's final moments
In this letter I now send to his parents.
Though my hand moves clumsily across the page,
In the shadow of the lamp I picture his parents
Reading these words, and imagining their grief,
Without even noticing, I let fall a single tear.
