Australia 1997 Cold Case Solved - Arrest Shocks Community

On the morning of July 18th, 1997, a walker at a clifftop reserve on Queensland's Sunshine Coast found a cask of wine on a bench, a glass in the grass, and a 25-year-old woman on the rocks below. Police recorded it as non-suspicious within hours. The glass was never DNA tested. Then it disappeared from the evidence chain entirely. The life insurance policy on the dead woman paid out 250,000 dollars to her partner three weeks after the suicide exclusion period expired. That file sat closed for 25 years. When cold case detectives went to Victoria to speak to the man in 2023, he staged an abandoned car at the edge of another clifftop lighthouse and vanished. He spent 18 months collecting a pension under a false identity until a podcast listener made a phone call. His own daughter had been too frightened to tell the truth for 20 years.
