Description
Grandma's pantry was the size of a coat closet, yet she fed six people and never threw out a thing. So what did she know that I forgot? Here's how.
When I turned 52, I added up my grocery receipts and found I was spending over $200 a month on pantry staples, and half of them expired before I used them. So I went back to Grandma's waste-free kitchen, and in this video I walk you through the 10 pantry-staple swaps I stopped buying, from bottled dressing and boxed broth to those little seasoning packets. The biggest shock? My husband and I were spending over $800 a year on snack bags alone, and number one isn't even a food. It's the Grandma's pantry habit that now saves me over $700 a year.
⏱️ TIMESTAMPS:
00:00 — Grandma's coat-closet pantry that fed six
1:44 — #10: The 90-second dressing that saves $300
4:20 — #8: Turning kitchen scraps into golden broth
5:48 — #7: Why seasoning packets are mostly salt
7:01 — #6: Grandma's homemade baking mix tin
9:32 — #4: Four times the beans, same money
10:40 — #3: The $800-a-year snack habit
13:03 — #1: The habit that isn't a food
Which of these swaps are you going to try first? Is it the popcorn? The broth? Or shopping your own shelves? Tell me in the comments below.
