Getting Our 10 Acres Ready For Winter Something Changes This Time of Year in the Country There’s something about this time of year in the country. You can see it, you can feel it… but it’s hard to explain. The mornings get colder, fog settles into the valley, the horses seem to know the seasons are changing, and suddenly there’s a long list of things that need to be done before winter arrives. This week at Field & Fence, we’re settling into fall on our 10 acres — stacking firewood, getting things ready around the farm, moving a few things with the Kubota, spending time with the animals, and preparing for a neighborhood gathering at the barn. But somewhere between all the chores, something else happens this time of year. Life seems to slow down just enough to remind us what matters — home, family, friends, community and appreciating this season of life while we’re in it. Maybe that’s one of the things we’re learning in our 50s: you don't need a special occasion to appreciate an ordinary day. Thanks for spending another one with us.
