Description

On the night of February 17th, 1974, a 17-year-old girl was dragged out of a car in a Fort Worth bowling alley parking lot after her Valentine's dance while her boyfriend was beaten unconscious with a pistol. The attacker dropped a gun magazine on the pavement. Detectives traced it to a man who lived two miles away, questioned him within weeks, gave him a polygraph, and let him walk. He kept the gun in his house for the next 46 years. A private Texas lab, degraded biological evidence from a bra stored since 1974, and a 1 in 28 octillion DNA match finally put him back in front of detectives at age 77. His name had been in the original case file the whole time.
