Maryland 1975 Cold Case Solved — He Walked Out of the Station Free

On the second day of Easter break in 1975, two sisters walked a mile to a shopping mall in Maryland to look at the holiday displays and never came home. A week later, a young man with long hair and acne scars walked into the police station and said he had seen everything. They gave him a polygraph, wrote the word lied across his file, and sent him home. A sketch of his face had been sitting in that same building the entire time, drawn by a frightened friend who had watched him follow the girls through the stores. Nobody set them side by side. Both sat in a drawer for 38 years while two parents grew old and a carnival worker drifted across the country hurting other children. Their bodies have never been found.
