Idaho 1980 Cold Case Solved - He Killed Again the Following Year

On June 26th, 1980, a highway crew in Idaho found a 24-year-old woman stabbed to death in the tall grass beside a rural highway. Next to her body was a 13-year-old newspaper clipping from Seattle that nobody could explain. A sexual assault kit was collected that day and sealed in storage because no lab in the world could read it yet. The man responsible was already in the original case file, his name written down after someone overheard him bragging in a nightclub. He killed his own stepdaughter the following year and died in a Utah prison in 2007 without ever being asked about Mary Tracy. One of her daughters made a phone call to the sheriff's office in 2023 and refused to wait any longer. The DNA results came back on the exact date, 44 years later to the day, that the highway crew had found her mother's body.
