Description

On the night of November 7th, 1986, police in Garland, Texas, found a 37-year-old woman stabbed to death in her own kitchen with a knife from her own drawer. The killer had left his blood in multiple places throughout the house. No forced entry. She had let him in. The DNA sat in CODIS for 25 years without a match because the man who left it had crossed back into Mexico within days of the murder and never once been arrested in the United States. It took genetic genealogy, a relative's ancestry profile, and an 85-year-old man crossing the border for his own birthday celebration to finally put him in handcuffs. He confessed the same day. The motive was a family argument. His sister-in-law's mother was 93 years old when she finally heard his name.
