Description

On a Wednesday evening in September 1992, an 82-year-old woman came home from the grocery store in Hillsboro, Oregon, put the bags away, and was found strangled on her living room floor two hours later. Police had a suspect within months. He was already being watched for another local strangling. While detectives worked both files, he killed three more women. He was convicted of four murders and sent to death row in 1995. Elizabeth's case was not among them. The biological evidence from her living room sat in storage for thirty-three years because no lab could read it. The man it belonged to died of cancer in the prison infirmary in 2009, sixteen years before the science finally confirmed what investigators had believed from the beginning.
