Description

Hey there! I'm Warner Movie Recaps! Today, I'm gonna recap the movie, A Good Marriage (2014) a slow-burning psychological thriller directed by Peter Askin, written by Stephen King, and starring Joan Allen as Darcy Anderson, Anthony LaPaglia as Bob Anderson, Stephen Lang as Detective Holt Ramsey, and Kristen Connolly as Petra Anderson. Darcy has been married to Bob for twenty-five years, and she believes she knows every corner of the man who sleeps beside her every night. What Darcy does not know is that the small metal box hidden in the back of their garage contains the driver's licenses of eleven murdered women. And by the time she understands who her husband really is, she will already be planning the quietest way to stop him forever. ___________________________________________ Become a channel sponsor and you'll get access to exclusive bonuses. Read more: / @warnermovierecaps ___________________________________________ In a quiet suburban home in Maine, Darcy Anderson bakes bread on Sunday mornings and irons Bob's shirts on Wednesdays and watches old movies with her husband every Friday night. She has been married to Bob Anderson for twenty-five patient years. He is an accountant. He collects rare coins. He is the kind of man who remembers her mother's birthday and holds her hand at church. To their two grown children, Bob is the safest man in the world. To Darcy, he is simply the man she thought she knew everything about. On an ordinary evening while Bob is away on a business trip, Darcy walks into the garage looking for batteries. What she finds instead is a small metal lockbox tucked behind a stack of her husband's coin catalogs. Inside the box are eleven driver's licenses belonging to eleven women who never came home, and a single earring stained with dried blood. She recognizes the faces from the news. She remembers the killer's nickname the press had been printing for over a decade. Beadie. Her husband is Beadie. The man she has slept beside for twenty-five years has been torturing and murdering women in the empty hours between his business trips. When Bob returns and sees her holding the box, he does not deny it. He explains it. He tells her that the killing side of him is a separate person, that he has been dormant for years, that he loves her and their children more than anything in the world and he will never do it again. He begs her not to go to the police. He reminds her what it would do to their kids, to the grandchildren, to the reputation of a family that has done nothing wrong. Darcy tells him she needs time. She tells him she still loves him. She tells him she can find a way to live with it. And in the quiet space behind her eyes, she begins to plan. Directed by Peter Askin and adapted by Stephen King from his own novella in the collection Full Dark, No Stars, A Good Marriage is a psychological thriller inspired by the real BTK killer Dennis Rader, whose wife of thirty-four years insisted she never suspected a thing. It is a film about the terrible practical question of what a good woman is supposed to do when the man she loves is a monster, and there is no one else left to stop him. Some marriages end in divorce. Some end in silence. And some end at the bottom of a set of stairs, arranged by the wife who loved him too much to let him keep hunting. Like if a quiet wife finally did what needed to be done. ___________________________________________ Hey!
