She wears vintage dresses and white gloves, speaks in gentle old-fashioned words, taps down the sidewalk in little heeled shoes, and greets every stranger with a warm smile. She takes a job as a substitute teacher in a quiet town, charms every child in her classroom, and catches the eye of the kind local sheriff who cannot believe his luck. To the whole town, she is the sweetest woman they have ever met. But behind the gloves and the good manners, Miss Meadows carries a pistol in her handbag and a code she never breaks. When a man pulls a gun on her in broad daylight, the sweet schoolteacher does not scream or run. She calmly ends him, straightens her dress, and walks away. She has spent her life hunting the predators, abusers, and killers the law lets slip through, and she has never once been caught. As her romance with the sheriff deepens, the two halves of her life begin to collide. He starts investigating a string of dead criminals with no idea the woman he is falling in love with is the one pulling the trigger. And when a newly released predator sets his sights on the town, Miss Meadows is forced toward a reckoning that could cost her everything she has hidden for so long. In a chilling, darkly beautiful story about justice, secrets, and the price of a double life, the most dangerous person in town is the last one anyone would ever suspect. ___________________________________________________________________________ Hey!
