Three U.S. States Are Feeling Canada’s Travel Boycott

Louisiana, Minnesota and North Dakota are all talking about the same thing right now. Canadians aren't travelling to the United States like they used to, and apparently people are starting to notice. Louisiana Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser says the US Canada Trade War is hurting tourism in his state, where Canada has traditionally been Louisiana's largest international tourism market. In 2024, roughly 185,000 Canadians visited Louisiana and spent nearly $194 million. Meanwhile, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey says Americans miss Canadians and don't consider us the 51st state. Fargo Mayor Josh Boschee says North Dakotans consider Canadians our cousins and would love to see us back at the family reunion. Yeah... I don't think calling us cousins is going to fix this. Canadian Travel to the United States remains well below where it was before the trade dispute began, and the US Tourism Decline is becoming increasingly difficult for border states and tourism dependent communities to ignore.
