Description

A lot of people in the United States seem convinced that Canadians just need to wait for the midterms. If Democrats take back Congress, things will calm down, the tariffs will somehow get sorted out and Canada US relations will eventually go back to normal. I don't think it is anywhere near that simple. In this walk and talk I explain why I don't believe the US midterm elections are going to repair the Canada US relationship, why Canada US tariffs could continue regardless of who controls Congress, and why the bigger problem now is trust. Canadians have spent nearly two years watching the relationship change. We have heard the insults, watched Canadian businesses get hurt, dealt with Trump Canada tariffs and repeatedly been told that eventually American politics will sort everything out. But how many times are Canadians supposed to wait for the next election before admitting that the Canada US relationship has fundamentally changed? I would obviously rather see some political restraint return to Washington, but that does not mean Canadians suddenly forget everything that has happened. And it certainly does not mean Canada should go back to depending on the United States the way we once did. So let me know what you think. Will the US midterms actually change anything for Canada, or are we eventually going to be told to wait another couple of years for the next president? ----------------------------------- How To Support The Guard The Leaf Channel Buy Me A Coffee https://buymeacoffee.com/guardtheleaf Guard The Leaf Substack https://guardtheleaf.substack.com/ ----------------------------------- e-7531 (Foreign affairs) https://www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-7531 GTL Community Photo Map https://google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1RY_LT1cX8-QSl8LpEoCHhj1MgPjexgk&usp=sharing Proton Email Referral Link https://pr.tn/ref/4Z7GCXPE Guard The Leaf Social Links: Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/guardtheleaf.bsky.social Substack: https://guardtheleaf.substack.com/ Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/GuardTheLeaf/ Hey.Cafe: https://hey.cafe/r/guardtheleaf Discord: https://discord.gg/MuCCQnUQ7u
