Description

Before Don't Cha became the defining girl group anthem of 2005, it belonged to OutKast backing singer Tori Alamaze. Alamaze recorded and released the CeeLo Green-penned single in late 2004, but after it stalled at number 53 on the R&B charts, Universal Records dropped her and reclaimed the master. The track was pitched to British trio Sugababes and heiress Paris Hilton, both of whom passed on recording it. Interscope head Jimmy Iovine then paired the production with Nicole Scherzinger and the newly formed Pussycat Dolls recording group, turning a discarded demo into a multi-platinum global phenomenon. Source: Documented in Billboard chart archives, Alamaze's release history, and Paris Hilton's 2006 interview acknowledging she passed on the track.
