North Carolina 1990 Cold Case Solved — His Name Was in the File From Day One

On the night of July 27th, 1990, a doctor in Charlotte, North Carolina, came home from work and found his wife stabbed more than twenty times on the dining room floor, hands cuffed behind her back. Their ten-month-old son was in the next room. DNA was recovered that night but the technology to read mixed samples didn't exist yet. The investigation spent four years building a capital murder case against the husband before it collapsed in court. A civil jury named the real killer in 1996 with weaker evidence than the lab would eventually produce. The state took another thirty years and another woman's death to finally make an arrest.
