On a Sunday afternoon at the park, Karla answers a call from her lawyer and turns away from the bench where Frankie is playing for less than a minute. When she turns back, the bench is empty. Only his little tape recorder is left behind. She sees him seconds later, screaming, being forced into the back of a green Ford Mustang by a woman she has never seen before. Karla throws herself onto the side of the moving car and is thrown off, and by the time she scrambles into her red SUV, the Mustang is already at the far end of the lot. What follows is not a car chase. It is a mother refusing to accept the world's most obvious ending, tearing across the highways and back roads of Louisiana in pursuit of two predators who have no idea who they just made an enemy of. Terry is a hard-faced man behind the wheel with a shotgun on the passenger seat. Margot is the woman who lured Frankie away by promising he would find his mommy in the parking lot. Together they are the local end of an international child kidnapping ring holding other children captive in an attic behind a lonely country farmhouse. Karla has ten thousand dollars in her bank account, no phone, no police, and no plan. But she has her son's voice on a tape recorder, a full tank of gas, and every ounce of a mother's fury behind the wheel. Directed by Luis Prieto and released in 2017, Kidnap gives Halle Berry one of the most brutal roles of her career a story about the terrible arithmetic of a mother's love, the failure of a system that measures its response in hours, and the moment a waitress from New Orleans decides that if the law will not save her son, she will. Like if you would have chased them too. ___________________________________________ Hey!
