Description

Over the past 20 months, Canadians have been hit with so much coming out of the United States that it has honestly become difficult to remember all of it. Tariffs. Annexation rhetoric. Border detentions. ICE. Insults toward Canada. Trade disputes. Airport concerns. Tourism problems. Privacy worries. And seemingly every few days there is something else to add to the list. One of our viewers, @iamalwayswrite, put together a list of reasons Canadians may want to think twice about visiting the United States. I organized the list into categories and went through them one by one because seeing everything together really puts into perspective just how much has happened. And that's really the point of this video. There is a lot of discussion around the US Tourism Decline and whether Canadian travellers will eventually start returning in the numbers they once did. But I think that conversation sometimes ignores why Canadians changed their behaviour in the first place. The US Canada Trade War, tariffs, border concerns, political rhetoric and the deterioration of trust between our countries have changed the way many Canadians look at the United States. This isn't a pandemic. The border isn't closed. Canadians can travel south if they want to. Many are simply choosing not to. And when you look at this entire list together, it becomes much easier to understand why the tourism numbers, cross border Travel patterns and parts of the U.S. Economy continue to be such an important story. There is so much news today that yesterday's breaking news is quickly forgotten. This video is a reminder of just how much has happened between Canada and the United States and why rebuilding trust is a much bigger issue than simply asking Canadians to come back and spend their money again. Thanks again to @iamalwayswrite for putting the original list together for the community. ----------------------------------- How To Support The Guard The Leaf Channel Buy Me A Coffee https://buymeacoffee.com/guardtheleaf Guard The Leaf Substack https://guardtheleaf.substack.com/ ----------------------------------- e-7531 (Foreign affairs) https://www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-7531 GTL Community Photo Map https://google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1RY_LT1cX8-QSl8LpEoCHhj1MgPjexgk&usp=sharing Proton Email Referral Link https://pr.tn/ref/4Z7GCXPE Guard The Leaf Social Links: Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/guardtheleaf.bsky.social Substack: https://guardtheleaf.substack.com/ Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/GuardTheLeaf/ Hey.Cafe: https://hey.cafe/r/guardtheleaf Discord: https://discord.gg/MuCCQnUQ7u 00:00 Intro 01:51 Canada's Sovereignty 03:34 Tariff and Trade 05:28 Border Issues 07:50 Data Privacy & Surveillance 09:57 ICE and Detention 11:02 Airport & Aviation 13:27 Personal Safety 14:45 Health & Diarrhea 15:47 Tourism Collapse 17:46 Social Climate & Insults 21:02 GTL Community Photo
