Description
I didn't start YouTube because I wanted to. I started it to cover my travel costs.
This channel is a record of clearing out what my father left behind after he passed away suddenly.
This was the fourth haul of the day, about three tons, and the disposal fee came to roughly 3,000 yen. There were five U-shaped concrete gutters sitting there, and since I'd heard that reinforced concrete costs more to dispose of than plain concrete, I tried breaking one up with a jackhammer. Given enough time, that tool can do it. But it was going to take longer than I expected, so I quit. The pile of rubble is what's left of that decision.
Time matters more than money here. A round trip to this land, 300 kilometers away, costs me 30,000 yen. I can't afford to spend that on cheap work. Paying a little extra to dump it as reinforced concrete is the better deal.
A neighbor kindly said they'd take the gutters off my hands. Except the one I'd half broken. If I'd left it alone, someone could have used it as it was. That one's on me.
I took a rare weekday off because the disposal yard is only open on weekdays. I planned to dump everything that day. It didn't happen. I barely ate lunch. The yard closes at four, and by the time I got back it was already five, but it was still light out, so I kept working to make things a bit easier for my next trip.
While I was on the excavator, my wife picked up trash across the property. I've hardly ever done that myself. She quietly carries a lot of things for me, in this work and in daily life.
Honestly, I'm tired. I forgot about the camera and left it running afterward. Short one this time.
I keep working on the multilingual translations. They feel like they're getting closer to right. If you notice anything off, let me know in the comments.
