Description

Penned by Kentucky-born tunesmith Jerry Chesnut, who later won the CMA Song of the Year for It's Four in the Morning, Holding On to Nothin' dissected the quiet desperation of a loveless marriage where both partners feel guilty when neighbors envy them. Producer Bob Ferguson assembled an all-star Nashville A-Team crew at RCA Victor Studio on January 31, 1968, featuring Wayne Moss on electric guitar, Pete Drake on steel, Roy Huskey Jr. on bass, Jerry Carrigan on drums, Hargus Pig Robbins on piano, and Anita Carter on backing vocals. Issued in March 1968, the single peaked at number seven and anchored their hit album Just the Two of Us.
