What Actually Happened in the Three Hours of Darkness: The Detail Most Readers Skip

At noon on the day Jesus died, the sun went out for three hours. Matthew, Mark, and Luke all record it, and then they say nothing more about those hours. It could not have been an eclipse. So what was it?
