Description

Hebrews says Melchizedek was "without father, without mother, without descent." Most people read that as a man who was never born. The Greek says something else entirely, and it changes how you see Jesus as your High Priest. Melchizedek appears in just three verses of Genesis fourteen. He meets Abram after the defeat of Chedorlaomer, brings out bread and wine, blesses him, and receives a tenth of everything, while Abram refuses even a shoelatchet from the king of Sodom. Genesis records no father, no mother, no birth and no death for him. Then his name surfaces once in Psalm 110:4, where God swears that the coming King will be "a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek," something Israel's law never allowed, as King Uzziah learned when he burned incense in the temple. In Hebrews seven the writer builds on that silence. We look at the three Greek words apator, ametor and agenealogetos and show why they belong to the language of records, not biology. Ezra 2:61-63 shows what happened to priests who could not find their names in the register. We also give a fair hearing to the view that Melchizedek was an angel or a pre-incarnate appearance of Christ, including the Dead Sea Scroll known as 11Q13, and explain why Hebrews itself calls him "this man" who was "made like unto the Son of God." The central point: Jesus, from the tribe of Judah, had no priestly paperwork either. His priesthood rests on an oath from God and "the power of an endless life." 📖 KEY VERSE "Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek." — Psalm 110:4 💬 Before today, what were you taught about Melchizedek? That he was an angel, that he was Jesus Himself, or had you never heard his name at all?
